Stellar Foundation supports two local riel dance teams and we are very proud of everything these two teams have achieved! Our riel dancers, the Griekwa Riel Dancers, and our Stellar Little Running Ducks competed at the 2017 ATKV Riel Dance Final in Paarl in December. The Griekwa Riel Dancers won first place, for the first time in 12 years! Our Stellar Little Running Ducks received a second place in the under 14 category.
Riel dancing is a local dance form, that stems from traditional Khoi and San ceremonial dances and is one of the oldest dances in South Africa. Each dance tells a different story and is used to transfer their history, stories and heritage from generation to generation.
